We celebrates harvest moon (Cyu-syu no meigetsu / 中秋の名月, Beautiful full moon in middle autumn)

In Japan, people enjoys full moon in September.

We calls the full moon night "Cyu-syu no meigetsu."
"Cyu-syu" means "Middle of autumn" and "meigestu" means "beautiful full moon".

At the end of August, we harvests vegetables.
When October comes, we harvests good rice.

In the middle period of harvest, people thanks for good vegetables, and wishes for good rice.

It maybe near to Thanks giving day in U.S..

Not only flowers, we decorates silver glasses and dumplings at this time.

In front of Matsumoto castle, a small festival was held at this day.
Ladies Kimono were serving Japanese tea.

I heard music of Japanese instruments from the castle.

In the soft lights, people seemed enjoying night walking.

I didn't know that this days was global-scale moon day, "Super moon".
Isn't it fantastic that every one in the world were watching the moon this day?

I think we can still see beautiful moon today.

Thank you for reading.
Have a nice evening!!

A school created as an art & a school turned to arts ( Last Classroom & A classroom made with blackboard: Echigo-Tsumari Art Triennale 2015 / 越後妻有アートトリエンナーレ2015, Niigata prefecture)

The last works I want to introduce are two kinds.
One is a temporary school made in museum, and the other is an old school turned to arts.

The first art is called "Last classroom".
The arts are placed at closed school named "Higashigawa elementary school".

Works are using lights and darkness, describing all people had gone at last.
The corridor in orange light.

When no people was there, I felt loneliness and fear that I maybe taken to some where other world.

Gymnasium filled with fan and small lights. The lights were like snowflakes.

Some people was watching the ceiling lie on the bench.

Music room with mirrors on the wall.

The classroom filled with glass boxes. They seemed like tombs and the room felt little cold.

As children are decreasing, schools are getting closed in Tokamachi.
I thinks the artists, Christian Boltanski and Jean Kalman, were describing the problem accurately.

Not only in Tokamachi, Japan is in same problem.
The people are getting older, we have to think to grow children, and elder may have to work little longer time than fathers, mothers, grandfathers and grandmothers.

I saw a sweet couple in gymnasium and felt little warm.
We have to do our best to keep Japan beautiful and peace.

The last work I want to introduce is named "A classroom made with blackboard".

Walls, desks, chairs and even globe were made with blackboard.

People who visit here can write anything they want using chalks.

See this flog.

Someone draw them as a picture.

The cat and dog drawn on the desk.
They were cute and I felt warm again.

These were all arts I wanted to show you.
There were more and more beautiful and fantastic arts, but I will introduce you someday.

The place I live is getting little cold and autumn is comming.
Yesterday was famous night that Japanese thinks that best full moon comes up in the year.
Also, today we can see super moon, the large moon than always.

I took pictures with Mastumoto castle yesterday, so I will introduce them in few days.

Thank you for reading!!
Good night!

Light magic, beautiful pictures flies out from a book. (Hokuetsu-Seppu: Echigo-Tsumari Art Triennale 2015 / 越後妻有アートトリエンナーレ2015, Niigata prefecture)

This art was so beautiful that I went to see it twice, in different days.
In the dark room, a book was set in the spot light.

Once you open the book, turning the pages, the pictures floats up and runs up the curtain.

The work's name was "Light book - 北越雪譜 (Hokuetsu-Seppu) -".

"北越 Hokuetsu" is the middle northern area's name in Japan.
"雪 Se" means "snow".
"譜 ppu" means written or set in clear order.

This book was written by Bokushi Suzuki, who lived 200 years ago.
The story was about life in Hokuetsu, telling both how beautiful and how severe the snows are.

Takahiro Matsuo, the modern artist, restored the book as light art in this world now.

The texts are also hologram, shown to each pictures. They are title of pictures.

As they were moving lights, it was so difficult to take pictures.

I wanted to explain how they are beautiful, but I need to study about camera more and more...

I wish Mr. Suzuki will show new works in next triennale.
I want to take more better pictures and introduce to you next time.

Thank you for reading!
Good night!

The arts using lights, little antique styles. Memories of Silk industries in the past. (Echigo-Tsumari Art Triennale 2015 / 越後妻有アートトリエンナーレ2015, Niigata prefecture)

There were a lots of works using lights.
Some were using digital technology, some were analog, just using lamps.

Both had different ways of beauty.
Today, I will pickup arts in analog way.

This art's title is "How Echigo-tsumaari had connected to Kyoto.".
The artist's name is Nozomi Tanaka.

Each lamp has picture and the picture shows the life in Echigo-tsumaari, the area's other name of Tokamachi and Tsunan.

This place was famous for Silk industry in the past.
Pictures show how people lived, working for silk production and cultivating.

One thing unique is that rabbits are drawn as people.

Rabbit weaving silks

Carrying packed rice to the boat.
The circle thing the rabbits are carrying is filled with rice.

Maybe next picture is a rabbits taking a trip to Kyoto.

The picture next is Samurais wearing armor and departing to somewhere.

Dancing "Bon dance".

The room was fantastic that seemed like I'm in a dream.

In the other room, there was a decoration of wedding.
The doll was little scary.

The doll were old man and woman, so it may means they are father and mother of bride and bridesman.

The next place was also related to silk industry.
The works were shown at the building once used as a silk factory.

The art's title is "An installation for Tsunan".

Artist's name is Kiyoshi Takizawa.
He used old shirts as a lamp.

He turned the shirts inside out and fixed to shapes of lamp.

I found Snoopy.

This is the sight of the work's front.

I felt that artist's message was to think about used clothes, even they are silk clothes or T shirts.

At the second floor, there was an other work.
There were lot's of string in the roof, it looks like cloud.

The day I went these places were rainy and little dark even it was daytime, but the darkness made the works beautiful.

As they were so beautiful, I felt that more and more people visit this place in next triennale.

Thank you for reading!
Have a nice weekend!

If you are grown up, what will you make with mud ? (Soil museum & Mole: TV Echigo-Tsumari Art Triennale 2015 / 越後妻有アートトリエンナーレ2015, Niigata prefecture)

Unfortunately, the days I have visited triennale were mostly rainy.
As Tokamachi and Tsunan are country side, there were a lot of muddy places.
My car become dirty and had to wash twice in this few weeks.
(I have to wash it once more time...)

Using the closed school, artists created "Soil museum".
They brought great amount of soil and mud in side of school and created many works.

See this huge mud ball. I forgot exactly, but I think it was written it weights more than 20 tons!

When I saw this, I thought "If adults play with mud, I will become like this..."
There were lot's of works like this inside of the school.

This is the entrance.

Going through the circle wood, people can go inside.
A lots of mud balls were stuck to the fence.

Not only in the house, we Japanese takes off at school, too.
I felt weird, a little tickling feelings when I stepped inside.

Corridor and walls were covered with soils!!
I think a lot of Japanese people feels like me.

The cave inside of the class room.

The clothes dyed using dirt of Tokamachi.
They were curled to wheels.

They were quite colorful, almost green, brown, blue and orange.
I reminded the artist who creates clothes for Kimono who I met during craft fair in Matsumoto.

http://four-seasons-japan.blogspot.jp/2015/06/twisting-cloth-for-kimono-around-people_12.html

Along the stair way going upper floor, window was covered with a picture.

The artist brought soils from several places, and drawn this picture.
I saw dusts flying in the air. I felt like I'm in the desert.

In the music room, piano was left there.
It was also became a part of an art.

The school was closed in 2009.
The piano may be happy to see the people visiting.

In the other class room, there were a lot of samples of soils.

In the lights, shadows made by the rocks were beautiful. Just a sample become an art.
Sample where not only corrected in Japan. I also found a soil from Russia and China.

They were like pictures from nature.

At the corridor of upper floor, there were animals and birds created my mud and woods.
The first picture, a bird was set here, too.

As I wrote at the top, this space was named "Soil museum" in English.
In Japanese, it is called "Mogura no Yakata."

"Mogura" means "mole" and "Yakata" means "house".
In the wall, there were cute picture of mole.

One more artist was using mole as a theme.
He was growing vegetables and creating a TV programs wearing full body suits of mole.
The program were mostly composed with interviews to the artist who participate to this festival.

TV program was shown on internet, but also could hear in the radio, too.
As he done an hour program a day, people who visit here can talk with him.

Even he was beard man, the kids really loved him.

Today, I introduced arts using soils.
I will set some other theme and show the pictures soon.

Thank you for reading!
Good night!
